John 14:27 “Peace I leave you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
Knowing, believing, and living that God is by your side, are all different.
There are times when God seems so distant and uninvolved in our lives; there are times when we can hear Him clearly speak to us. You have an enemy that wants you to continually cast doubt on anything to do with God, love, grace, joy, and peace. When you feel lost an alone, confused and frustrated, call on your Father, He is always there listening.
Father, help me to seek You with all that I am in every situation. If I am feeling lost and alone, help me to come to Your table to seek Your comfort. When I am feeling overwhelmed, help me to come sit in Your presence to find clarity. When I am fearful, help me to come into Your open arms and find peace. When I am under attack, help me to come under Your cloak of protection. Father, thank you for always giving me a way to be with you and find strength in my relationship with you. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
Matthew 11:28-29 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
We have all known the feelings of rejection. The wounds that are caused by another’s words, actions, or lack of interest. We have all become tired and weary of trying to succeed and being put down. In these times, we all have a choice to walk through life wounded or remember that we are a child of God.
We have a Father that tells us to come to him when we are weary and burdened. When we cannot seem to find rest, we have a Father ready and willing to pull us into his lap and give us rest. With that heavenly rest comes rest for our souls. So, as we face the challenges of our day remember that we have a Father ready to hold us and give us the stolen moments to remind us that we are loved and valued, even when the world tells us differently.
Father, I come to you with a heart ready to release the burdens I have been carrying. I know that You are ready and willing to hold me and comfort me. You taught me to come to You and You will give me rest. Father, I am in need of Your rest today. My soul is burdened and weary, come Father and bring Your peace. In Jesus Name, Amen
1 Peter 1;18-19 “For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were reeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.”
When you look in the mirror what do you see? Do you see a flawed human being or a child of God? Actually, you should see both. However, which one are you choosing to focus on?
When we focus on our flaws we become beat down and overcome with sadness. When we focus on our relationship with Christ we are freed to feel joy, peace, and love. I am tired of spending my days focusing on my flaws. It is time to start living a loved life. One where I recognize the precious blood of Christ has washed over me and cleansed me from my sins. When you look in the mirror, thank God for the life He has given you because no matter where you are He has redeemed you. That doesn’t t mean you will be pain free, but it does mean you have a companion to walk through the fire with you.
Father, thank your or giving me a life, although not exactly what I had planned, where I encountered You. I could not, and don’t want to, imagine where I would be today if it were not for the precious blood of Christ. I have not, and will not, live an empty life. I will continue to grow in my relationship with You knowning that You are the author. Continue to carry me, guide me, and call to me everyday of my life. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
1 Peter 1:10 “The prophets who told us this was coming asked a lot of questions about the gift of life God was preparing.” ~Message
I have heard people say that it is not okay to question God. I believe today I have discovered that, according to scripture, we can ask why. When we ask questions we tend to find answers. Is that not the point in asking questions?
When I compared the NIV and The Message version of this scripture it became clear that the prophets asked lots of questions about the coming Messiah. They wanted details, when, where, why the suffering, and what about this Holy Spirit? Through their questions God gave clarifying, but not complete answers. So, ask God your questions, but don’t sit and wait for the answers to come to you; you must seek and study for things to be revealed.
Father in Heaven, thank you for the gift of the Holy Spirit that allows me to not only ask question, but to hear Your still small voice. Father I can rejoice in knowing that You have a plan. You will not condemn me for being curious and seeking answers. You have given me a mind, curiosity, and Your Spirit to bring clarity where there seems to be none. Help me find the answers to my why questions and speak truth into my heart. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
1 Peter 1:3 “Praise be to the God and father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead…”
Peter, is a perfect example of what happens when we allow God to heal our wounds. He was one who questioned his faith yet became such a powerful leader in the church. God has a way of opening doors and my eyes to the fact that I am not alone in my struggle to understand what He did and what it means for you and for me.
Peter, walked with Jesus, saw Him do miracles, heard Him preach, and denied Him. Peter was a real person, like you and me. He faced many of the same challenges except, he knew Jesus in the flesh. Peter was freed from his guilt and shame when he allowed Christ to work in him. He lived his life allowing the Holy Spirit to guide him. We too have the gift of the Holy Spirit and can live a life full of joy, peace, forgiveness, and love if we allow Christ to live in and through us.
Father free me from the chains that hold me captive. Free me form the guilt and shame that seem to keep me from living a joy filled life. You alone have the power to forgive and free me from the chains that bind. Open my eyes to the love, peace, forgiveness, and joy You have in store for me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
Ephesians 1:5 “In love, He predestined us to be adopted as his sons and daughters through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will…”
Oh to be loved and cared for, this is the need of every human being. God created each of us with the desire to belong and to be loved. Yet, we often feel that we are not good enough. We put on masks to be accepted by others. We feel as if we need to hide our true selves to be loved. God tells us that in not the case.
Bring your brokenness and your pain to the cross. God loves you just the way you are. Take off your mask and sit with your Heavenly Father. He is waiting with His arms open wide. He adopted you with all your flaws, heartache, and mistakes and loves you dearly.
Father, Thank you for adopting me just the way I am and for loving me through all my challenges. Continue to strenghten me and guide me to be the loving carefree child you have created me to be. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
1 John 5:21 “Dear children, keep yourselves from idols.”
In a world full of want and desire it is difficult to keep away from idols. Be careful what you cherish so that it does not take God’s place in your life. When we put the things of this world before God they can easily become something we worship. Be wise to the desires of the flesh; keep watch for the things of this world that take your time and energy away form what God has called you to do. God will provide for you especially when you feel you are drowning.
Father, thank you for always being there for me and continually drawing me back to Your loving presence. It is so easy to get drawn into the desires of this world. Continue to guide me, walking with me through every decision. Father, give me Your wisdom for my day and open my eyes to the idols in my life. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
1 John 5:14-15 “This is the confidence we have in approaching God; that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us – whatever we ask – we know that we have what we asked of him.”
At one time in my life I thought no matter what I asked of God He would give it me. I would go in confidence to Him so I knew He heard me. The problem, I was not asking according to His will I was asking acccording to my wants and desires.
When we are asking God to lead, we need to trust Him to lead. Whe we go before our King we need to remember that He is omnipresent, the Alpha and the Omega, He Knows what we need before we even ask. When we come to Him and our motives are not in-line with His, He hears us, but it ay not life up with His will. These are the times we need to be willing to listen for His words of wisdom, grace, and mercy. The human flesh is weak, but with Christ we are made strong. Go before God with your needs and remember to seek His wisdom, knowledge, and will for your life. Have confidence that God will work in your life to give you the “riches” of your heart.
Father, thank you for saving me from the desires of my flesh and giving me the wisdom to hear You. I come before You broken and incomplete; You make be whole and beautiful. Thank you that I can come to you with confidence seeking my hearts desire knowing that You will point me in the right directions according to the loving and perfect plan You have for my life. Cover me today, giving me clarity and wisdom. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
1 John 3:18 “Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.”
It is so easy to live in our own flesh and not look beyond ourselves. When we live selfless we are living according to Christ’s love. This kind of love is difficult for us because we are sinful by nature. We look at peoples actions and judge them. Yet, we judge ourselves by our intentions. The verse today tells us to love with our actions, by doing, and to love with truth not harsh words. Living for Christ is a life worlth living that doesn’t mean it wil be easy. Talk is cheap do don’t talk about what you are going to do, chit up and do it.
Father, help me in my selfishness. My words and my actions do not always line up with my heart. Help me to be the person You want me to be and to live a life that is pleasing to You. Help me to love with my actions and Your thuth. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
1 John 2:29 “If you know that he is righteous, you know that everyone who does what is right has been born of him.”
Following Christ is not always easy. We are called to stand out, to live differently, and to do the hard things. When we practice righteousness, “right living”, we stand out and people notice. We are able to forgive the unforgivable, find hope in situations that seem hopeless, and love the seemingly unlovable. Living this way shows the strength of Christ in us.
Father, thank you for the Holy Spirit that strengthens me so I can live and follow You. Conintue to fill me so that I can live the life You have designed for me and to show the love of Christ wherever I go and in whatever I do. Help me to do what is right in order to bring glory to You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
