Destructive Habits

2 Peter 2:19 “They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of destructive habits – for we are slaves of anything that has conquered us.”

We have all found ourselves emotionally empty at one time or another.  When this happens “destructive habits” begin to conquer us.  We start thinking that it is the responsibility of those we love to be there emotionally for us, but they too have “destructive habits” that are controlling them as well.  So how do we break this cycle of destruction?  We learn to let God fill our emotional bank account with His great love.  Our circumstances may not be what we what them to be, but how we chose to respond and react to the things and the people in our lives is our choice.  We can continue to cycle in the ugliness of this would or we can choose to allow Christ’s blood to wash over us and allow His peace to shine, not because of our strenght but because of who He is.

Father forgvie me for trying to fill the God sized hole in my life with earthly desires.  Come by your Holy Spirit and fill me with a joy and a peace that can only come from You.  When I feel “empty” prompt me to come to You to be filled.  In Jesus’ Precious Name, Amen

Wounds Can Be Healed

Jeremiah 6:14 “You can’t heal a wound by saying it is not there.”

How often to we pretend that we are not hurt by the actions or words of another?  We allow others to speak down to us or say hurtful things only to be left angry and upset.  Over time, if these feelings are not dealt with you are left with a hard heart.  Once this happens now you have to deal with anger, resentment, and contempt for and toward that person.

This is not what Christ wants for our lives.  Just like when we have a deep physical wound it needs to be tended in order to avoid an infection.  We need to tend to our emotional wounds in much the same way.  Admit that you are wounded and allow yourself to feel the emotions.  When we can admit that we are wounded we can begin to find healing and speak truth over our lives.  this will lead to forgiveness instead of anger and resentment.

Father, I admit that I am powerless to change my situation apart from You.  I need You to walk with me through my day recognizing and separating TRUTH from lies.  Fill my heart with Your love and kindness so that I can be salt and light to my family and friends.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen

Stop Fighting and Give It To God

Matthew 5:9 “You’re blessed when you can show people how to cooperate instead of compete or fight.  That’s when you discover who you really are, and your place in God’s family.”

You cannot change the world, but you can change yourself and influence the world.  When you begin to seek God with your whole heart, you allow Him to guide you and your perspective changes.

We often think that if life goes our way everything will be okay.  We try to control every situation.  When we do, we become anxious, depressed, and overwhelmed with hurts and frustration.  Once you begin to realize that you cannot control every situation you will begin to allow God to move in your life.  Stop growing weary and weak fighting and competing, realize that you can only control you and your choices.  When we let go, we allow God to move through us and this brings the joy and peace of Christ to challenging situations.

Thank you Father, for moving in my life and opening my eyes to the fact that I have no control over others in my life.  Help me, Father, to come to you and allow you to be my guide.  Heal me from my hurts, habits, and hang ups.  I admit that I am powerless to change things in my life without your help and guidance.  Thank you for friends that allow me to be me and help me to grow in my relationship with you.  Protect me today as I begin a new day, I give you all the glory and thanksgiving.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen

How Is Your Inside World?

Matthew 5:8 “You’re blessed when you get your inside world – your mind and heart – put right.  Then you can see God in the outside world.” (MSG)  “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.” (NIV)

What would your life be like if your heart and mind were lined up with God’s?

If we align ourselves with God’s will, imagine how your relationships would be different.  When our hearts and minds line up with God, we can let go of our selfish desires.  We would be able to understand that no human will live up to our expectations.  This would intern lead to less disappointments in life.

I am not saying we should not have expectations of others, but maybe we could take a look in a mirror and see if we are holding others to a different standard.  We often judge ourselves by our intentions and judge others by their actions.  Maybe we should look to see if our actions line up with our intentions.

Gracious and living Father, I come before You broken and incomplete.  I am in need of Your transformational healing in my life.  Help me to get my inside world right and lined up with Your will for my life.  Open my eyes to the healing that comes from knowing You.  Help me to make decisions that are pleasing to You.  In Jesus’ Precious Name, Amen

Cared For

Matthew 5:7 “You’re blessed when you care.  At the moment of being ‘care-full,’ you find yourselves cared for.”

When we care for others we envision them caring back.  this does not always happen.  There are times when we show others kindness, comfort, love, and compassion and we get nothing in return.  When this happens we can feel let down.

Some people are not capable of giving back, for what ever reason.  God tells us that in these times we need to rely on His care for us.  Humans by nature are selfish and Christ is selfless.  We can come to Him with our hurts, habits, and hang ups to seek peace, comfort, and care.

Allow yourself to be cared for by your Savior.  He is waiting for you to come into His areas to find peace from your brokenness.

Gracious, loving, and caring Father, I come to you with all my brokenness.  I cry out to You for healing in my life.  I know that no matter what I have done or failed to do You are reading to care for me and walk with me.  Father, thank ou for your grace, love, and mercy.  Help me to care for others and when I am not cared for in return seek that care from You instead of becoming upset or hurt.  Bring people into my life that are filled with Your Spirit of care and love. Surround me with Your children.  In Jesus’ Precious Name, Amen

Appetite for God

Matthew 5:6 “You’re blessed when you’ve worked up a good appetite for God.  He’s food and drink in the best meal you’ll ever eat.” (MSG)

Throughout our lives we desire more.  More money, more friends, more room in our homes, more help, the list could go on.  What we are missing is the fact that these desires are material not eternal.  When we desire more of God we become people that others want to know and become a light that others seek.  When God grows in us, the selfish ways and desires begin to disappear allowing us to be true children of God.

As you go through today look deeply at your words and your actions, are they pleasing to God or are they fulfilling selfish desires?  Are you being a light to those around you?  Are you able to see your part in a conflict and accept responsibility for your actions or are you blaming others for you attitude and actions?  Life is too short to play the “blame game.”  Go deeper into a relationship with God and allow Him to change you ad you increase your desire to know him.

Gracious and loving Father, thank you for all that you do in my life.  I come before you seeking a deeper relationship with You.  Help me to examine areas of my life that fall short of  Your glory and expectations for my life.  Father, I know that I have hurt others by my selfish desires instead of deepening my relationship with You and following Your lead.  Help me to seek You today and feast at Your table.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen

Be Content

Matthew 5:5 “You’re blessed when your’re content with just who you are – no more, no less.  That’s the moment you find yourselves proud owners of everything that can’t be bought.”

When you look in the mirror, what do you see?  Do you see a child of God or something else?

God wants us to know that no matter what we face in life, we are His child.  Because we are His, we can be content with who we are.  When we look upon our circumstances, no matter how good or bad, and can thank God for everything we have, nothing else matters.

Put your faith in Him because He cares for you.

Heavenly, gracious Father, I come before you seeking your kingdom over my life.  I surrender to you all the hurt and heartache that is holding me captive and seek Your will for my life.  Give me today the strength to be content with who I am.  Help me to forgive those who have hurt me or caused me to stumble.  Father, I am sorry for sinning against you and causing others to stumble.  Lead me on to a new path, where I am living my life for you and in constant connection with You.  I admit that I am powerless to change my situation and lean on You to deliver me from my enemy.  Bring you kingdom, power, and glory into my life and the lives of those closest to me.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen

Righteous Heart or Wicked Mouth

Proverbs 15:28 “The heart of the righteous ponders how to answer, but the mouth of the wicked pours out evil things.”

We have all been there, someone says something that feels like an attack on our character and we lash out with our words.  This “tongue lashing” leaves people hurting and upset.  The silent tongue can cause just as much harm when it is silent out of anger and bitterness.

We walk this fine line, in life, with our tongue.  This organ is so powerful it has the ability to bring comfort, peace, and praise as well as cause immense pain.  With this great power we should use caution and think about our responsibility in using it.

The old saying of “sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me,” could not be further from the truth.  Our words can hurt more than any physical wound.  Use your words carefully today and allow the righteousness of your heart to shine.

Gracious Father, thank you for the gift of speech.  Thank you for giving me this tool for communication.  Help me Father, to ponder a righteous answer so that from my lips comes words that glorify You and You alone.  I know my natural tendance is to use my tongue for my glory and not for yours.  Help me today to use my words to bring glory and healing to my broken relationships or healing to a broken soul.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen

Poor in Spirit

Matthew 5:3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for their s is the kingdom of heaven.”

Are you at the end of your rope and confuse about what you should do in you life?  Jesus says to come to Him and allow Him to comfort you.  When we humble ourselves before God He is able to bless us.  This is difficult because we have to step aside and allow God to be the center.  No matter your hurt, pain, confusion, God has a plan to bring healing to you and your situation.  This healing comes from the kingdom of heaven.

Father, as I go through today help me to humble myself in your presence.  Bring me to my knees before You.  Heal me from my pain and heartache.  Help me to trust Your plan for my life.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen

Broken But Not Alone

Pslam 34:18 “The Lord is close to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

My hope is in the LORD; He can bring me comfort when nothing else can.

When the heartaches of life threaten to destroy you, the only secure and safe place is at Jesus’ feet.  At Jesus’ feet, you can leave everything, heartache, sorrow, pain, fear, loneliness, shame, emptiness, and the list goes on.  No matter what you are feeling Christ is there waiting to take you burdens; if you listen closely He is talking to you, bring comfort as he shares in your sorrows.  What are you waiting for? Come to your Savior because He brings you comfort in times of pain, hope to a hopeless situation, and a smile to your face.  May God be with each of you today and warm your heart.

Father, I come before you with all my pain, heartache, challenges, fears, and brokenness.  I seek Your healing in my life and ask for a peace that surpasses all understanding.  You alone LORD can heal my wounds and bring hope to my situation.  Father, come by Your spirit and cover me today.  In Jesus’ Precious Name, Amen
